Racers Battle Evansville To Final Point Before Road Loss

The Murray State women's tennis team lost a 4-3 decision Friday to the Evansville Purple Aces.

The indoor match was played at the Tri-State Athletics Club in Evansville, Indiana.

The Racers fell to 0-2 this season as they look for their first win of the season in the next match at Saint Louis on Wednesday (Feb. 8).
"We played really good in the doubles and got the point and really the singles could've gone either way," said Racers' head coach Jorge Caetano. "We're such a young team and we fought hard. Sara Bjork was very close to taking her match but lost 7-6 in the third set. She battled her opponent. So overall, our effort was very good today and we fought hard to the last point. I'm looking forward to our continued development as we go along this spring. I think the more we play, the better we're going to get."

The Racers and Aces went to the final match to decide the doubles point. MSU's Claire Chang and Alina Schibol won their match and then the best 2-of-3 was decided when Jeanne Masson and Sara Bjork won their match 6-2. The Racers went into the singles play up 1-0."

MSU's No. 1 player Claire Chang won her match against UE's Chieko Yamada when she took the second and third sets each in a score of 6-4. Anja Loncarevic won her match at the No. 3 singles slot 6-2, 6-4 over UE's Daria Pentsova. The match was decided in a thin margin when MSU's Sara Bjork, the No. 6 singles player, lost the third set to UE's Andjela Brguljan 7-6.
