First Pitch
The Racers continue their four-game homestand this weekend as Jacksonville State comes to town for MSU's second OVC home weekend of 2017. The Racers are 6-6 at Reagan Field this season and 2-1 in conference games at home while the Gamecocks are 8-9 on the road and 0-3 in OVC road contests.
Inside the Series
MSU is 6-12 all-time at Reagan Field against JSU and is 14-28 overall versus the Gamecocks. Last time the two teams played in Murray, back in 2015, the Racers won 2-of-3. Both wins came via walkoff, game-winning hits, the second of which was a three-run home run from Kipp Moore who was a freshman at the time.
RBI King
With his two RBIs against Lindenwood on Wednesday, Tyler Lawrence surpassed Wes Cunningham for the most career RBIs all-time in program history and now has 168 for his career. Lawrence is also just five hits shy of passing Cunningham for the most hits in program history. Cunningham tallied 237 career knocks while Lawrence sits at 233.
Scouting Jacksonville State
Andrew Naismith leads the Gamecocks with a .328 batting average and is one of three players hitting above .300 this season. Trent Simspon, who is third on the squad with a .314 batting average, leads JSU with 26 RBIs and five home runs. His seven doubles and 12 total extra-base hits are also a team-best. Nolan Greckel leads the team with 17 runs scored. Clayton Daniel is the only Gamecock who has played in all 22 games this season.
As a team, the Gamecocks are hitting .265 and are averaging 5.5 runs scored per game. JSU isn't much of a running team, as it is just 6-for-16 on stolen base attempts in 2017.
The JSU pitching staff is led by Joe McGuire's 2.05 ERA and three wins in 2017 while Cody Dodd and Justin Hoyt lead the Gamecocks with 10 appearances each. Hoyt leads JSU with three saves and has a 2.20 ERA and two victories. Derrick Adams leads the squad with 32 strikeouts in 2017. JSU has a team ERA of 4.87 and has a .266 opponent batting average.
