Brimlett Breaks Own MSU 100 Hurdles Record At NCAAs

Murray State's Jabreuna Brimlett broke her own school record Saturday in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles at the NCAA D-I Outdoor East Regional at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex in Lexington, Ky.
After breaking the record in Friday's prelims with a time of 13.42, Brimlett, a sophomore from Poplar Bluff, Missouri, hit the line with a time of 13.30 on Saturday. In a matter of 24 hours, the Racer speedster managed to trim a little more than two-tenths of a second off the 2013 mark set by Sharda Bettis at 13.53.
However, her record performance wasn't enough to place in the top-12 that advance to the NCAA Championships (June 7-10) in Eugene, Oregon. In fact, she missed grabbing the final spot by only a blink when Tia Thevenin of Syracuse posted 13.27.
"For JB to come so close to making it to Eugene as a sophomore is truly amazing," Murray State Head Coach Jenny Swieton said. "She broke the school record on both days and just barely missed punching her ticket. I know this will only motivate her for the future."
The event wrapped up a reward weekend for Racers' sophomores Brimlett and Tamdra Lawrence, who were among the best in the Ohio Valley Conference in their respective events. Lawrence competed in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, but did not advance.
"I am a so proud of Tamdra and JB this weekend and the effort they gave," Swieton added. "Both girls came out and competed at a very high level. It is a great thing that they were able to see what this meet is all about as only sophomores. The experience gained will be to their benefit as they continue their careers in our program."
There have been nine NCAA qualifiers from the Murray State program in the Coach Jenny Swieton era including Brimlett and Lawrence this spring.
