Tuesday
The Murray State volleyball team comes home to Racer Arena for the first time in 2017 to host Southern Illinois in a 7 p.m., contest. MSU is looking to snap an eight-match losing streak to the Salukis. The last time MSU hosted SIU, the Salukis rallied from a two-set hole to defeat the Racers in five sets back in 2012. SIU swept the Racers last season in Carbondale.
Last Weekend
MSU took home the Chattanooga Classic title this past weekend, winning all three matches in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Racers opened the classic with a pair of sweeps over UL-Monroe and Sam Houston State before winning a four-set match over host-Chattanooga to claim the crown. Dacia Brown, Rachel Giustino and Alex Kaufmann were named to the All-Classic Team with Giustino taking home Most Outstanding Player honors.
OVC Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Giustino took home her first career OVC Offensive Player of the Week honor Monday after her outstanding performance at Chattanooga. Giustino averaged 6.30 kills per set and hit .321 over the weekend and also averaged 3.40 digs per set and added eight service aces. Giustino recorded a career-high 28 kills and added 19 digs in the win over the Mocs. She began the tournament with 19 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the sweep over ULM and had a 16-kill, nine-dig outing against SHSU.
Home Cookin'
The Racers look to extend their program-record 24-match regular season home winning streak Tuesday. MSU went undefeated at home during the regular season in each of the past three seasons and has won 32-of-33 overall at Racer Arena dating back to 2014.
Scouting Southern Illinois
The Salukis enter Tuesday's match looking for their first win of 2017 but have faced some serious competition early this season in matches against Arkansas State, Miami and Western Kentucky. Andrea Estrada leads SIU with 45 kills on the year while Nellie Fredriksson and Kolby Meeks are tied for second on the team with 27 kills each. Meeks leads SIU with a .356 hitting percentage. Alayna Martin leads SIU with 101 assists so far and has led the Saluki offense to a .174 hitting percentage. In the back row, libero Ashley Edelen leads the team averaging 3.93 digs per set.
