This Weekend
Murray State returns to road action for its third non-conference tournament of the season Friday and Saturday at the Bradley CEFCU Classic in Peoria, Ill. The Racers begin the tourney with a 6 p.m., match Friday against Bradley and will close things out Saturday morning at 11 against Illinois-Chicago.
Last Time Out
The Racers hung on for a thrilling five-set victory Tuesday at Racer Arena over Southern Illinois, snapping an eight-match skid against the Salukis. After winning the first two sets 25-17 and 28-26, MSU dropped sets three and four, 25-19 and 25-22 before surviving the fifth set, 16-14. The win pushes the Racers' regular season home winning streak to 25 matches in a row, extending the program record.
Rachel Giustino and Dacia Brown led the way offensively for MSU with 23 and 14 kills, respectively while Rachel Holthaus added 12 kills and hit .310. Megan Lindsay chipped in with eight kills and hit a match-high .375. Becca Fernandez led the way with a career-best 22 digs from her libero position and Alex Kaufmann notched a career-high three service aces in the win.
Scouting Bradley
The Braves are led on offense by Erica Haslag's 136 kills (4.86 per set) and 5.23 points per set so far this year. Jamie Livaudais is second on the squad with 60 kills while Kathryn Graf and Alissa Schovanec are third with 54 each. Graf leads Bradley with an impressive .362 hitting percentage. Hannah Angeli leads a Braves team that is hitting .218 so far in 2017 and is averaging 11.18 assists per set. BU has just 17 service aces thus far but has 59 total blocks as a team.
Scouting Illinois-Chicago
UIC enters the weekend having played in just five matches in 2017. Kyisha Hunt leads the Flames with 73 kills on the year and is hitting .320. Illinois-Chicago is very balanced with its two-setter system as Kaliegh Skopal leads the way with 125 assists and Nicole Johnson has 119. In the back row, Manuela Conte leads the Flames with 93 digs (4.43 per set) while Carla Salvato has 91 digs (4.33) on the year. As a team, the Flames have 25 service aces and 31 total blocks.
