The Racers and Redhawks are meeting for the 79th time since the first in 1931 and for the 53rd OVC meeting since their first in 1992. In Murray, the Racers lead SEMO 26-10, but the Redhawks beat the Racers on their home floor last season. The two have played a pair of overtime games with SEMO winning at home in 2014 and MSU winning at SEMO in 2015.
The Racers start the 2018 portion of the schedule after a 6-2 December. MSU has won three-straight and four of their last five.
MSU defeated Eastern Illinois 80-52 and SIUE 87-63 to open the OVC season at 2-0 last week. Â SEMO comes to the CFSB Center having split home games last week. They lost to Belmont 94-72, but came back on Sunday and defeated Tennessee State 77-65.Â
There are surely going to be many 3-point baskets and free throws when the Redhawks and Racers meet. SEMO is No. 1 in OVC 3-point percentage (.381) and the Racers are second (.379). When defending the 3-point shot, the Racers are tops in the OVC (.328) and the Redhawks are last (.390). At the free throw line, SEMO is tops in made free throws (224) and the Racers are second (218).Â
The second week of OVC play finds Jonathan Stark and Terrell Miller, Jr. getting closer to becoming the 43rd and 44th members of the MSU 1000-Point Club. Each has played in 46 games at MSU and Stark has 950 points and Miller has 735.
After the Racers meet Southeast Missouri, they'll host the UT Martin Skyhawks Saturday at the CFSB Center in a doubleheader day with the women's game tipping at 5 p.m. That will end a four-game home stand to start OVC play for MSU and next week, they'll begin four in a row on the road at Belmont and Tennessee State.
