The Murray State Racers carry a three-game win streak and a run of four wins in their last five games as they begin a road trip to Southeast Missouri State and UT Martin. The fun starts Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. tip at the Show Me Center as the Racers meet the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks in another battle for the Ohio Valley Conference title. MSU won the first meeting (Jan. 4) at home 89-73.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 27th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. The Racers find themselves in sole second place in the OVC at 8-2. MSU is one game behind leader Belmont (9-1). UT Martin's 67-63 win at Jacksonville State last Thursday gave the Racers second place by themselves. JSU, Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay are all tied for third place at 7-3.
MSU had a huge offensive week at home last week against Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. The Racers hit 57 percent in all shots and were 43 percent from the 3-point line and 82 percent from the free throw line. This big offensive burst pushed them to 20th in NCAA D-I in Field goal percentage from 30th place the week before. MSU raised it's field goal rate some eight points to .494. Â They lead the OVC in total shooting and 3-point shooting.
MSU's three-headed post presence of Jalen Dupree, Brion Sanchious and Anthony Smith has proven a great compliment to All-OVC forward Terrell Miller. This trio combined for 12.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in the last three games against Tennessee State, Morehead State and EKU.
The Racers are coming off an 87-81 win over Morehead State and an 88-73 win over EKU. Jonathan Stark led MSU in scoring with a 22.5 scoring average as he continues to prove that he is worthy of being name the OVC Preseason Player of the Year. All-OVC selection Terrell Miller added his ninth MSU double-double. Â Stark has 1,144 points at MSU and is pressing to become the program's all-time two-year scorer. DT Mayes (1996-98) is on top with 1,340 points and Cameron Payne (2013-15) is second with 1,279. Miller is pushing to become a member of the MSU 1000-Point Club. After his 14-point performance against EKU, he has 847.
The Racers head for UT Martin Saturday for a 6 p.m. game at the Elam Center.
