Murray State continues its four-game homestand to open OVC play Thursday as Southeast Missouri comes to the CFSB Center for a 5 p.m., tip. The Racers are 16-13 all-time at home against the Redhawks and are trying to snap a current two-game skid in the series. The last time the two teams met was in the penultimate game of the last season in which the Racers lost. Ke'Shunan James scored a then-career-high 35 points in the loss while Bria Bethea added 19.
MSU is coming off a 75-70 loss Saturday at home against SIU Edwardsville. Bethea and James combined to score 50 points in the loss and went 18-of-35 overall from the floor. The duo were the only two Racers to make more than one field goal in the game.
Both James and Bethea are in the top 10 in the league in scoring so far this season. James' 20.1 points per game are the second-most in the OVC while Bethea's 15 points per rank eighth. In OVC-only games so far, James is second (25 ppg) and Bethea is seventh (17.5 ppg).
Adrianna Murphy's 12.6 points per and 5.5 assists per game, which leads the OVC, leads Southeast Missouri. Murphy is the only Redhawks to have started in all 14 games this season. Tesia Thompson is second on the squad in both scoring (10.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.4 rpg) while Deja Jones leads the Redhawks in rebounding at 5.8 boards per contest. As a team, SEMO is shooting nearly 40 percent from the floor and averaging 60.8 points per game while allowing 63.1 per. The Redhawks are looking for their first road win of the season, posting a 0-6 record in true road games.
Rekha Patterson is in her third season at the helm as head coach of the Redhawks and has notched a 34-40 record so far.
After meeting SEMO Thursday, the Racers will host UT Martin Saturday in a doubleheader along with the MSU men. Game time is again set for 5 p.m., against the Skyhawks and will close MSU's four consecutive home games to open conference play.
