Groves Resigns As Head Women’s Soccer Coach
1/8/2018 4:36:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Murray State head women's soccer coach Jeremy Groves has announced his resignation in order to take the associate head coach position at Mississippi State. The search process to hire the next Murray State head coach has already begun.
"There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to Coach Groves for all that he has accomplished at Murray State," said Director of Athletics Allen Ward. "He has taken our women's soccer program to unprecedented heights and done so with the utmost integrity and class. I've truly enjoyed working with him and watching him develop into one of the finest coaches in the entire country. I wish Jeremy and his family the very best in Starkville, as they will always be part of the Racer family."
"It's important for the team and future Racers to know that I have a plan to keep things moving in a positive direction," Ward added. "There's no reason we have to lose any momentum. The women's soccer program at Murray State has a very bright future!"
While brief, Groves' tenure at Murray State was nothing short of remarkable as he won three straight OVC regular-season championships, two OVC tournament titles, was named OVC Coach of the Year twice and made two trips to the NCAA tournament in just four years' time. During his stay in Murray, Groves put together an overall record of 50-21-6 and an OVC record of 32-3-5. His OVC record includes a current streak of 31 consecutive league matches, over the span of four seasons, without a loss, dating back to October 31, 2014.
With his first commitment as head coach, Groves signed a player that would go on to be the only three-time Offensive Player of the Year in OVC history and break the program record for most goals scored in Harriet Withers. In total, Groves' players earned 14 All-OVC honors, including nine first-team, to go along with six All-Newcomer honors.
In his final season in 2017, Groves and company put together one of the most memorable seasons in Racer soccer history with a program-best record of 15-2-2, including an 11-game unbeaten streak. The Racers also climbed as high as 27th in the RPI over the course of the season and received votes for the first time in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.
