The Murray State Racers (6-1) are very happy to come home to the friendly confines of the CFSB Center for their first home court appearance in two weeks when they welcome in the Jackson State Tigers. Tip time is 7 p.m. as the Racers honor former head coach Tevester Anderson who became one of the top coaches in MSU history at both schools.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 28th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. The game can also be seen online at ESPN+.
A special halftime tribute to Coach T will be something fans will want to stay in their seat for as Murray State recognizes Tevester
Anderson for his distinguished career. Anderson assisted Mark Gottfried from 1995-98 and had a big part in three OVC regular season titles and a pair of NCAA appearances. As head coach from 1998-03, Coach T's Murray State teams won 103 games in five seasons including two OVC titles and two trips to the Big Dance. Anderson ended his career at Jackson State (2003-13) by winning two SWAC titles and taking JSU to one NCAA appearance.
After road wins at Middle Tennessee (Dec. 8) 64-42 and Tuesday at Southern Illinois 80-52, there may not be adequate words to describe how well the Racers are playing right now. In the last 80 minutes of play, the Racers have forced 40 turnovers and outscored the Blue Raiders and Salukis a combined 144-94 as they shot a combined 47 percent (55-of-117) from the field and 37 percent (19-of-51) from the 3-point line and held MTSU and SIU to 30 percent total (30-of-99) and 18 percent from the 3-point line (5-of-27). The Racers lead the nation in defending the 3-point line as opponents are shooting 20 percent (23-of-112).
Ja Morant continues to thrive as the main piece to what the Racers are doing this season with 23 points and 13 assists at SIU.
The super sophomore is well on his way to becoming the 14th Racer to lead the team in scoring and assists. And if he keeps it up, he might well join Racer greats Jonathan Stark, Cameron Payne, Isaiah Cannan, Aubrey Reese, Marcus Brown and Les Taylor who also led the team in these two important cetegories and became Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year Award winners.
After the JSU game, the Racers remain at home Tuesday for a 7p game with Evansville after the MSU women's team hosts SIU at 5 p.m. at the CFSB Center.
