Last Meeting: MSU 65, at JSU 97 – January 11, 2018
The Murray State women begins its final home weekend of the season Thursday night as Jacksonville State comes to "The Bank" for a 5 p.m., tip-off. The Racers are coming off a 77-68 loss Saturday at SIU Edwardsville. Brianna Crane led MSU in the loss with 12 points while Bria Bethea added 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. A four-point third quarter for the Racers cost them dearly against the Cougars in the loss.
MSU is 7-3 at home all-time against JSU, but lost its previous meeting at home, 74-71 back in 2016. The Gamecocks got their largest margin of victory in the series the last time these two met, winning by 32 back in January. Ke'Shunan James led the Racers with a game-high 29 points in the contest.
Jacksonville State is the top defensive team in the league, allowing an OVC-best 56.8 points per game and allowing opponents to shoot just 37 percent from the floor. Rayven Pearson's 8.7 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per contest lead the Gamecocks' balanced offensive attack, while Taylor Hawks and Tyler Phelion each average 8.3 points per, which ranks second on the team. Gretchen Morrison, who is the only Gamecock to have started in all 25 games this season, sits behind them with seven points per game. JSU is just 4-7 on the road this season.
Thursday will be the first of two games this week for MSU as it closes out the 2017-18 home slate. Saturday will be Senior Night against Tennessee Tech, which will also tip at 5 p.m. Bethea, Jasmine Borders, James and Mary Jones will be honored prior to the game. Saturday is also Racer Women's Basketball Alumni Weekend with the 2007-08 OVC Championship team being honored during the MSU men's game.
