MSU Next: OVC Tournament, Ford Center, Evansville, Indiana (Feb. 28-March 3)Â
The regular season finale takes the Racers to Clarksville, Tennessee where they face long-time rival Austin Peay Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Dunn Center. The game is another chapter in the season-long Heritage Bank Battle of the Border as the point total favors the Racers 15-9 after they swept the women's and men's games at MSU on Feb. 8.
The game also finds the Racers (23-5) having already clinched at least a share of their 25th Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship. After Thursday's 76-66 victory at Eastern Illinois and Jacksonville State's 75-67 win over Belmont, The Racers have sole possession of first place at 15-2 and can take it outright if they can win in Clarksville. By the end of the day Saturday, the regular season will be in the books and the eight-team OVC Tournament will be set. The fun begins Wednesday at the Ford Center in Nashville with the Racers getting a bye to Friday's semifinals.
Jonathan Stark, the OVC Preseason Player of the Year, has six 30-point games this season and had a pair of them last week. He has 99 3-pointers heading into the APSU game and is taking aim at his own MSU single-season record of 108 that he hit last season. Stark is leading the OVC in scoring for a second-straight season at 21.4 points per game. He has 1,322 points in 61 games. In the history of two-year players at MSU, only De'Teri Mayes has more as he scored 1,340 points in 63 games from 1996-98.
All-OVC Preseason pick Terrell Miller, Jr., enters the EIU game nearing a career mark of joining the MSU 1000-Point Club. He has 948 points. He has nine double-doubles this season including a 20-point and 12 rebound game at EIU.
