The Murray State Racers met the media at the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Wednesday at Viejas Arena in San Diego, California. The Racers' 16th appearance in the NCAA's tips a half hour after Wichita State meets Marshall. The tip time is approximately 3 p.m. Central Time for the Racers.
The Racers enter the game with the nation's second-longest winning streak of 13 in a row. MSU hasn't tasted bitter defeat since a 79-72 loss (Jan. 18) at Belmont.
"We've had a long stretch here and we've just tried to play team ball," Stark said. "We've kept it going because we knew one loss at any game of the run and we weren't going to win the OVC and we'd not be here."
"After that loss to Belmont, we rallied around each other," said MSU senior forward Terrell Miller, Jr., "We said lets try and not lose another one. We took one practice and one game at a time."
The Racers are looking for a third-straight NCAA trip with a win, following 2010 and 2012 when MSU won games over Vanderbilt and Colorado State. But to do it, they'll have to tangle with the No. 5 seed West Virginia, who puts one of the best defensive squads in the game on the floor. One key stat will be how the Racers can match up with WVU on the boards.
"They're fourth in the nation in offensive rebound percentage and they have eight guys who average at least one per game and Jevon Carter averaged .9, so that's basically nine essentially," said Racer head coach Matt McMahon.
The Murray State Racers (26-5) are making their 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament after a fantastic regular season that saw them win the Ohio Valley Conference regular season at 16-2 and then the OVC Tournament to gain the conference's automatic bid.
