3/9/2018 12:28:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Murray State's Jonathan Stark was tabbed as part of the 2017-18 College Sports Madness All-Mid Major Teams.
Earlier in the week, the senior guard from Munford, Tennessee was also honored by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches in their postseason awards.
As the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Player of the Year, Stark backed it up in winning the OVC Player of the Year for the regular season and then won the OVC Tournament MVP award which pushed the Racers to their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance coming next week.
Stark had a monster season in leading the OVC in scoring (16th NCAA) for a second-straight season at 21.8 points per game.
His season-high in scoring game was a 36-point performance at home against Southeast Missouri. A confident and competent shooter, Stark has 19 games this season of 20-plus points and four of 30-plus. Stark has scored 676 points this season (19th NCAA) after scoring 723 in his junior season.
Stark topped his 2017 MSU record of 108 3-point baskets, as he has 109 (8th NCAA) entering the NCAA Tournament. Stark is seventh in the nation with 3.52 made 3-pointers, his 3-point percentage (.410) is 61st in the nation. Stark is the all-time leader in scoring for two-year players at Murray State with 1,399 points. Add in his two-year statistics from Tulane (2013-15) and Stark is the only active player in the nation with more than 2,200 points and 550 assists.
The Racers (26-5) are preparing for their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance after taking the OVC Tournament over the weekend.
