Racers Drop Pitching Duel to Redhawks
5/23/2018 9:09:00 PM | Baseball
Gray Dorsey was valiant in a complete game effort Wednesday night at the OVC Tournament but it was not enough as Murray State fell to No. 2 seed Southeast Missouri, 5-2 in its first game of the day in Oxford, Ala.
Dorsey pitched a career-high eight innings in the loss and struck out eight batters while allowing just five hits. SEMO's (27-28) Carlos Vega was equally impressive, pitching 8.1 innings and striking out 11 Racer (27-28) batters.
After the Redhawks jumped out in front early with a pair of runs in the first, Dorsey went 20 straight batters without allowing a hit and allowing just one baserunner over that span. A Jaron Robinson single to right in the fifth got the Racers on the board for the first time and cut the deficit to 2-1. SEMO would get a run in the seventh to go up 3-1 and then hit a two-run shot in the eighth to extend it even more. Ryan Perkins got an RBI groundout in the ninth to finish off the scoring in the contest.
MSU got eight hits from eight different players. Ramsey Scott had the only extra-base hit in the loss as he hit a double off the wall in the ninth. The Racers face Eastern Kentucky presently in an elimination contest.
