DAY THREE -Â JABREUNA BRIMLETTÂ - 100MÂ HURDLESÂ QUARTERFINALS
Jabreuna Brimlett represented the Racers in the 100M hurdles quarterfinals but wasn't able to get a spot in the NCAA semifinals in Eugene. Her time of 13.74 was good for 20th place in the field of 24 runners. Her time was off her spring best that she posted in the first round in Tampa of a 13.17.
Congratulations to both Brimlett and Tamdra Lawrence on making the NCAA prelims and they want they represented the Racers this week in Tampa.
DAY TWO - JABREUNA BRIMLETTÂ - 100MÂ HURDLES 1ST ROUND - LAWRENCE - 200MÂ 1ST ROUNDÂ
After Tamdra Lawrence ran Thursday in the 100m prelims, day two finds both Jabreuna Brimlett and Lawrence in action at the NCAA Tampa Prelims at the  USF Track & Field Stadium.
Brimlett posted a time of 13.17 and had a spot in 10th place in the field of 48 competitors as she advanced to the 100m hurdles second round for a second-consecutive season. Her time of 13.17 was much better than the best time she had in the spring of  13.37.Â
Lawrence posted a time of 23.52 and placed 38th in the field of 48 runners and didn't advance to the next round.
DAY ONE – TAMDRA LAWRENCE – 100M 1ST ROUND
Tamdra Lawrence ran in the fourth heat of the 100m sprint where she posted a time of 11.60 to place sixth in a field of eight. Her time among the entire field of 48 competitors was 37th. The MSU junior from Macon, Georgia, improved from her 2017 NCAA time of 11.78, but it wasn't enough to get her into the group of 24 runners that advanced to the final. Lawrence was not quite up to her best time of the spring which was an 11.51 at the OVC Championships.Â

Â
Brimlett, the champion of the 100m hurdles in the Ohio Valley Conference, is in the fifth heat on Friday (May 25) at 1 p.m. ET. Lawrence, who won both the Ohio Valley Conference 100m championships, will see her first action Thursday (May 24) in the 100m as part of the fourth heat. Â
The speedy Racers from Murray State hope to advance out of the first round and then make the top-12 from the Tampa finals which would send them to the NCAA Championships (June 6-9) in Eugene, Oregon.
Â
"We're excited about heading down to Tampa and the east preliminary round," said MSU head coach Adam Kiesler. "Tamdra and JB have both put in the work and deserve everything they have achieved. When they made it to the NCAA regional last year, it was new to them and they had a great experience. But, the goals are a little different this time, because each one wants to make it further than they did last year."Â
Â
Lawrence ran both of her top times at the OVC Championships where she was tied for the best mark in the OVC in the 100m with a time of 11.51 (94th in NCAA D-I). She had the second-best time in the OVC in the 200m at 23.42 (97th in NCAA D-I). Brimlett has the best 100m hurdle mark in the OVC after she posted a 13.37 at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational (59th NCAA D-I)
Â
Coach Kiesler says he took a slightly different approach in training for his star duo.
Â
"We set it up so the NCAA prelim could be a focal point to give them the best chance possible to achieve their goals," Kiesler said. "Representing Murray State at a meet like this is something both of them take very seriously. They want to represent the team, the school and every MSU track and field student-athlete who came before them at the highest level. It will be a fun weekend and I look forward to watching them compete."
Â
Brimlett and Lawrence are in the NCAA regional for a second-consecutive year after they competed in the 100m, 200m and 100m hurdles last May in Lexington, Kentucky. Brimlett, out of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, ended up advancing to the finals of the 100m hurdles where she broke her own MSU record. Lawrence, from Macon, Georgia, wasn't able to qualify for the finals in either of her two events.
Â
There are two NCAA prelims going on this week. Aside from the action in Tampa, there is another event as California State-Sacramento is hosting the West Preliminary. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene.
