Third Quarter Surge Stalls For Racers At EIU

The Murray State women's basketball team found itself down by 12 points at halftime, but doubled up Eastern Illinois in the third quarter to head into the final stanza of Thursday's game at Lantz Arena in Charleston tied. However, the rally would run out of steam in the fourth, as EIU held on for the 75-67 win.
Despite outrebounding the Panthers, 41-28, the Racers again struggled in the turnover department by committing 23, compared to 13 by EIU. Eastern Illinois outshot the Racers from the floor in the game, 47.3 to 36.2, and from 3-point range where they sank seven of 20, compared to seven of 21 by Murray State. The Racers did outperform the Panthers at the charity stripe, where they went 18-for-23, including a perfect 8-for-8 effort from Evelyn Adebayo.
Adebayo picked up her ninth double-double of the season in the game with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Macey Turley was 7-for-14 from the floor, 4-for-7 from beyond-the-arc and 2-for-2 at the line to lead the Racers with 20 points. Janika Griffith-Wallace led the Racer the bench on the day with 11 with the MSU reserves outscoring their EIU counterparts, 15-8.
Murray State will return to action Saturday when it travels to SIUE to take on the Cougars at Noon.
