The Racers rolled to their 17th consecutive home win Thursday as they won their OVC opener for an 11th straight time with a 90-69 win over the Morehead State Eagles.
Darnell Cowart thrilled the 4,006 fns on hand with a career-high 20 points and nine rebounds and front court mate, KJ Williams poured in 14 as the Racers showed they can win games with what is becoming a strong inside presence. The Racers ended the game scoring 64 of their 90 points in the paint.
The Racers' guard play was outstanding as All-Star Ja Morant continued his run of great play with a game of 16 points and 13 assists, while Shaq Buchanan scored all of his 15 points in the second half.
Even though the Racers gave up 41 percent to Morehead State from behind the 3-point line, they're still defending the three this season at a high level. MSU came into the OVC opener first in the league and third in NCAA D-I. MSU enters the EKU game only giving up 27 percent, the best for the team since the 2011-12 season when they gave up only 29 percent.
The Racers haven't lost a home game in more than a year and carry a streak of 17 straight wins into the game with the Colonels. MSU's last home loss was to Auburn in December 2017 and MSU has won 10-straight OVC home games since their last loss to Eastern Illinois on Feb. 18, 2017 by a score of 82-65.
The series with EKU is MSU's third-longest behind only Morehead State and Tennessee Tech. Saturday's meeting is the 164th between the Racers and Eagles.
Next week, the Racers begin a four-game road trip at UT Martin (Jan. 10) and also have road games at Southeast Missouri (Jan. 12), Eastern Illinois (Jan. 17) and SIUE (Jan. 19).
MSU comes back home (Jan. 24) to host the Belmont Bruins in game that will be live on ESPNU.
