The fourteenth-ranked Murray State rifle team went on the road and picked up a big victory Saturday by taking down No. 11 Ohio State, 4662-4559 in Columbus Ohio. The Racers used a season-high 2362 in air rifle to propel them to victory, in addition to a 2300 in smallbore, which was four off the season mark.
I was happy with the way we competed today," said head coach Alan Lollar after the match. "It was a team effort and we are moving in the right direction. Our air rifle is right on schedule and our smallbore is closer than the scores indicate.
"I thought Anna had a great match," Lollar continued. "She is becoming a consistent contributor and I'm really proud of the way she goes about training and competing. Meike and Dana continued to be solid for us, while Shelby is very close to putting it all together. Chloe and Lauren are working hard and are starting to show improvement."
Dana Buesseler led the Racers in smallbore at 579, while Anna Scheer led in air rifle with a career-best 596. Scheer also tied her career smallbore score at 1173 and notched a new career aggregate best at 1173.
Murray State will look to carry the momentum from Saturday's win over to next week when it hosts top-ranked and defending national champions TCU Nov. 9 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray.
