Racers Win Exhibition Over Martin Methodist

The Murray State Racers got the 2019-20 season underway with a 105-64 exhibition win over the Martin Methodist Redhawks Monday at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
KJ Williams led five Racers in double-figure scoring with 20 points to go with nine rebounds, while Tevin Brown and Demond Robinson each scored 16 points. Anthony Smith added 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Jaiveon Eaves scored 13 points. Chico Carter dished out six assists for the Racers.
An early 16-6 lead went to a 25-8 advantage with the Racers on a run with four different players scoring in a 13-0 run at the 12:38 mark. The Racers held a 51-28 lead at the half and outscored the Redhawks 54-36 in the second half.
Among the pleasant stats the Racers created in the game included having 28 assists in their 41 field goals. MSU also held a 56-26 lead in points in the paint and won the rebound stat 54-30. The Racers had 11 players see action tonight and 10 of them scored.
MSU also defended the 3-point line well in holding the Redhawks to 5-of-26 for 19 percent, while the Racers hit 36 percent on 9-of-25. Brown was 4-of-5 from long range and Eaves was 2-of-4.
The Racers open their 95th season of collegiate basketball Saturday when the Southern Jaguars come to the CFBS Center for a 7 p.m. game. The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
