For the fifth time this season, senior Rachel Giustino has claimed Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Over the weekend, Giustino averaged 6.86 kills per set, nearly two kills better than anyone else in the conference last week. She also hit an extremely efficient .415 in the two wins.
Against SIU Edwardsville, Giustino recorded 28 kills in four sets while hitting .356. In the process of the at match, she also notched her 1,599th career kill, becoming the new all-time leader in kills in Murray State history.
She followed her performance against SIUE with 20 kills while hitting .514 in a sweep of Eastern Illinois. She also chipped in with double-digit digs in both matches to give her 14 double-doubles this season.
It is the eighth time Giustino has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in her career in addition to the two times she won Newcomer of the Week in 2016 and is also the 10th time this season the Racers have picked up honors from the OVC as Becca Fernandez has been named Defensive Player of the Week three times and Ashley McBee has won two Setter of the Weeks.
Giustino and the rest of her Racer teammates will be back in action this weekend when they take on first-place Southeast Missouri on Friday at 6 p.m. and UT Martin, Saturday at 2 p.m.
