After winning their first OVC Championship since 1992 last season, the Murray State track and field program is excited to announce their 2019-20 schedule.
This year's schedule includes trips to six different states as well as the eighth annual Margaret Simmons Invitational at home. The season will conclude with the OVC Outdoor Championships, set to be hosted by Murray State for the first time since 2010.
"We are excited to finalize our schedule for the 2019-2020 track season," said head coach and reigning OVC Coach of the Year Adam Kiesler. "We feel this schedule will allow us to compete at a high level and give our kids plenty of opportunities to achieve their individual and team goals. Our Multis will get a chance to get a few pentathlons and a heptathlon in before each conference meet which is very important. We return to a few places we haven't been in a few years and we are excited to go places we haven't been before. The best part is we get to host the OVC Outdoor Championships here in Murray which allows our kids to compete in a very familiar environment."
The indoor season kicks off with the only meet in 2019, the Saluki Fast Start on December 7 in Carbondale, Illinois. When the Racers return after winter break, they will be competing in three meets in nine days, beginning with the Samford Multi in Birmingham on January 16. Just two days later, the Racers will travel to Eastern Illinois for the John Craft Invite before wrapping up this stretch back at Southern Illinois for the Don DeNoon Invite, January 24-25.
After a week off, the Racers return to action at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia on February 7-8. The team will then travel to Birmingham the next two weeks for the Samford Open on February 14-15 before wrapping up the indoor season with OVC Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Complex on February 26-27.
The outdoor season will begin on March 13 when the Racers host the Margaret Simmons Invite for the eighth consecutive year. Following that will be another trip to Carbondale for the Bill Cornell Spring Classic on March 20-21.
The Racers will then return to two meets they competed at in 2019 the following two weeks with the Texas State Bobcat Invite on March 26-28 and the Joey Haines Invite at Southeast Missouri, April 3-4.
The following week begins a four-week stretch in four different states beginning with the Joe Walker Invite at Ole Miss, April 10-11. The Racers will then go to Auburn for the War Eagle Invite, April 17-18 before competing at Arkansas State in the Red Wolves Open, April 24-25. Finally, they will wrap up the regular season with the SIU Alumni Classic in Carbondale, May 1-2.
The Racers will look to defend their title when they host the OVC Outdoor Championships, May 14-16. It will be the first time since 2011 that Murray State will host the conference championship meet.
