This Weekend
The Racers hit the road for two big matches in the penultimate weekend of the regular season. They begin the weekend with a matchup against first-place Southeast Missouri, Friday night before wrapping up the weekend with the Skyhawks of UT Martin. First serve on Friday is set for 6 p.m. while Saturday is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Last Weekend
The Racers got back into the OVC title race as they swept Eastern Illinois at Racer Arena on Saturday. With the win, MSU now controls its own destiny for at least a share of the OVC regular-season championship. One night after breaking the Murray State record for kills in a career, Rachel Giustino added 20 more kills against the Panthers while hitting .514, helping her secure her fifth OVC Offensive Player of the Week. Callie Anderton dished out 43 assists while Becca Fernandez anchored the defense with 17 digs.
She's Number One
Rachel Giustino recorded her 1,599th kill against SIU Edwardsville, Friday evening, to become the all-time leader in kills in Murray State history, passing Scottie Ingram's record set in 2016.Â
NCAA Leaderboard
Rachel Giustino is among the nation's leaders in a couple of categories as she is second in total kills with 472 and fourth in kills per set at 5.30. Becca Fernandez is also near the top 20 in digs per set with 5.09, currently 25th in the nation.
Scouting Southeast Missouri
The Redhawks enter the weekend in first place in the OVC with a 10-2 record. SEMO is one of the best defensive teams in the country as they are 12th in the country in opponent's hitting percentage at .150 and lead the OVC in blocks per set at 2.31. They are also near the top of the NCAA leaderboard in aces with 1.79 per set, 13th-best in the country. Laney Malloy leads the offense with 3.10 kills per set while Colby Greene, Mikayla Kuhlman, and Annie Wehrheim all average over two kills per set. Claire Ochs paces the team with 9.35 assists per set while Tara Beilsmith anchors the defense with 4.66 digs per set. Maggie Adams is also a big reason for the Redhawks' success as she averages over a block per set.
Scouting UT Martin
The Skyhawks enter the weekend at 6-6 in conference play after defeating Tennessee Tech, last Saturday. They are currently sitting in a tie for sixth in the OVC as they look to secure a berth in the OVC Tournament this weekend. UT Martin has a balanced attack on offense with Gintare Mackeviciute, Logan Wallick, Jessica Reynolds, and Karen Scanlon all average over two kills per set. Kenzie Hinshaw dishes out 8.90 assists per set while Jamie Rys is averaging 3.48 digs per set. Justine Walker leads the OVC with 1.20 blocks per set.
