Racers and Bears Meet Tuesday In Springfield
The Murray State Racers (4-3) travel to the JQH Arena to take on the Missouri State Bears (3-5) in a 7 p.m. tip Tuesday in Springfield, Mo. The Racers are coming off a three-game run (Nov. 25-27) at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida, where they won the middle game against Weber State 69-68. The win was sandwiched by losses to La Salle (75-64) and Drake (63-53).
Racers Meet Their Third Missouri Valley Foe
The game marks the third of four games in the pre-Ohio Valley Conference season for the Racers to meet a team from the Missouri Valley Conference.To this point in the season, the Racers have defeated Southern Illinois (77-66) and lost to Drake (63-53). Until that loss the day before Thanksgiving, the Racers had won six-straight over MVC teams. MSU has played at least one game against the entire lineup of the MVC at some point, with the exception of Northern Iowa.
Gulf Coast Showcase Wrap
In the three games at the GCS, the Racers and their opponents had the same amount of made field goals (71), but the Racers hit 15 3-pointers, while the opponent hit 31. The Racers committed 44 turnovers and caused 42. MSU Shot .447 from the field on 71-159 (.447), while the opponents hit 71-of-154 (.461). The Racers were 56-106 from inside the arc for a clip of .528. Tevin Brown led the Racers in scoring at 15.3 points per game, while Chico Carter, Jr. (14.0), KJ Williams (14.0), Anthony Smith (12.3) and Darnell Cowart (10.0) also scored in double-figure averages. Â In the Weber State game, Williams scored a career-high 23 points on 11-of-15 from the field. The Racers have played in the GSC twice (2015 & 2019) and have an overall mark of 3-3. Brown was the workhorse in the event as he played in 119 of 120 available minutes.
MSU Returns Home Saturday
The Racers will be glad to get back home to the friendly confines of the CFSB Center when they host Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. The day marks a women's/men's doubleheader at The Bank, with the MSU women hosting Indiana State at 5 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7 p.m. The Racers are 3-0 at home this season.
