Claire Chang and Amina Hadzic scored singles wins in the Murray State women's tennis loss at Kennesaw State Sunday by a 4-2 score in Kennesaw, Georgia. The match was played at the Betty Siegel Recreational Courts at KSU.
Chang and Jeanne Masson were tied 5-5 in their doubles match when Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic lost their match 7-6. So with the doubles point being decided by the slimmest margin, the Racers went into the singles segment where Lonecarevic was 2-2 in the third set when the match was decided.
Chang, playing from the No. 1 slot, won her match 6-2, 6-4 and Hadzic, from the No. 4 slot, won her match 7-5, 7-6.
MSU head coach Jorge Caetano said the match was another good road test for his squad.
"It was not the result we were expecting because we know we could have come back with a good road win but giving the circumstances," Caetano said. "I am pleased with our team effort and fight. It was our first outdoor match with extremely windy conditions and the girls did a good job overall trying to adapt. Kennesaw State played a great match and deserved the win but knowing the character of our team, I am confident we are going to bounce back and play some good tennis at home this weekend."
The Racers are 3-4 on the season and return home Friday for an 11 a.m. match against Bradley at the Kenlake Tennis Center. MSU hosts Missouri State Saturday at Kenlake.
