Racers Finish Up Samford Bulldog Open

In the last event before OVC Championships, the Murray State track and field team wrapped up the Samford Bulldog Open in Birmingham, Alabama, Saturday.
"Overall this was a great meet before OVCs," said head coach Adam Kiesler. "The 200m and high jump yesterday really set the tone for the weekend. I think everything the team worked on was visible during this competition."
After winning the only two events held yesterday, Jabreuna Brimlett added a third win for the Racers, Saturday, as she won the 60m hurdles for the second time this season with a time of 8.55. The senior also finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.68.
Another solid showing for MSU came in the 1000m run as three Racers finished in the top ten with Emma Creviston placing third (3:05.03), Morgan Vosler fourth (3:11.23), and Meghan Easton ninth (3:19.97).
Rachel Gootee put in her best performance of the season in the weight throw with a distance of 14.90m, setting a new personal record to finish in fifth place out of 30 competitors. The senior has had a remarkable season so far as she has now improved her personal best by over four meters since the beginning of the season.
Ashlyn Oren followed up her win in the high jump yesterday with a third-place finish in the long jump this afternoon with a jump of 5.46m. Tamdra Lawrence also followed up a win yesterday in the 200m with a second-place finish in the 60m (7:56)
Dani Wright (5:27.87) and Katelyn Gilbert (5:29.45) each set personal records in the mile.
Hilary McAdam was solid in the 400m as she finished fourth out of 65 runners with a time of 57.63.
In the pole vault, Brooke Misukonis placed fifth (3.65) while Jessie Kinder (3.35) was ninth out of 21 competitors.
The day concluded with the 4x400 relay and the squad of Lawrence, Norma Abdur-Rafia, McAdam, and Aubrey Main finished third out of 21 teams with a season-best time of 3:50.21.
The team will return to the Birmingham CrossPlex next week for the OVC championships looking to improve on a fourth-place finish in 2018.
"We will clean up a few things before we come back in 10 days and do whatever we can to try and win," continued Kiesler. "I am very proud of this team and can't wait to see what they do on the 20th and 21st."
