Murray State's Shaq Buchanan, has accepted an invitation to play in the Dos Equis 3X3 National Championship. The three-day event is staged (April 5-7) at The Mall of America in Minneapolis.
Buchanan will be part of a four-man team from the Ohio Valley Conference also featuring Jason Burnell (Jacksonville State), Lamontray Harris (Morehead State) and Dylan Windler (Belmont).
Buchanan, who had a tremendous two-year career with Murray State was part of one of the most successful two-year runs in program history. For starters, Buchanan helped the Racers to a 54-11 record with 42 of those wins coming by a 10-point margin or more. In the OVC, the Racers won back-to-back regular season titles and had a combined 32-4 record. MSU also won two consecutive OVC Tournament titles, which led to two NCAA appearances. The Racers won the program's fourth game at the NCAA Tournament when they defeated Marquette in the opening round.
Buchanan was named All-OVC in his senior season and was named the winner of the coveted OVC Defensive Player of the Year honor.
The event has 32 four-man teams representing every NCAA D-I basketball conference. Games will be played in a three-day, 3-on-3 tournament. Games will be streamed live via Twitter on Friday, April 5 beginning at 3 p.m. ET and Saturday, April 6 beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. On Sunday, April 7, the Round of 16 and quarterfinal games will be streamed live on Twitter at 10:30 a.m. ET, and the semifinals, third-place game and championship game broadcast live on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. ET.
Scoring for the games will be one point for each made shot inside the arc and two points for shots made from outside the arc. The first team to 21 points is the winner or the winner will be decided when the 10-minute time limit has been reached. All games are played by three vs three on a half court.
There are officials for the games and they will call fouls. A team is in a penalty situation after it has committed six fouls. Players cannot foul out, but can be called for a technical foul. Offensive fouls will result in a change of possession but will not give the other Team free throw opportunities.
