After an outstanding senior season, Tamdra Lawrence has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track Female Athlete of the Year.
"We are extremely proud of Tamdra for receiving this award," said head coach Adam Kiesler. "It is always good to see when an athlete's hard work is recognized by other schools in the conference. This award isn't something Tamdra has earned just over the past 10 months, but something she earned over the past four years of hard work and determination to help this program win a championship. We are extremely grateful to Tamdra for what she has done for this team and university and look forward to this weekend watching her compete at the OVC championships for the last time."
Lawrence is the eighth Racer in history to earn the honor and first since Alexis Love in 2019. It is the 10th overall time a Racer has been named Athlete of the Year as Heather Samuel was a three-time winner from 1992-94.
This season, she was a two-time OVC Track Athlete of the Week (April 3 and May 1) after strong weeks at Texas State and Memphis. Lawrence won eight races this outdoor season including two times in the 100 (Memphis Tiger Invitational, Margaret Simmons Invitational), twice in the 200m (Memphis, The Island Meet), and twice each in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays (The Island Meet, Margaret Simmons).
Her 11.36 100m at Memphis was her all-conditions personal best and is currently the top time in the OVC as well as 30th-best time in the nation this year and the 19th-fastest time in the East Region. Her 200m time of 23.91 set at the Texas State Bobcat Invite is also the fastest time in the OVC this year.
At the OVC Outdoor Championships this weekend, Lawrence will look to become the first female in OVC history to be a 4-time OVC Champion in the 100m. She will also be competing in the 200m, which she won as a freshman in 2016, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
