Racers Take Four Game Win Streak To Tech
The Murray State Racers (10-5, 3-0) look to keep their good play going when they travel to Cookeville for a game at Tennessee Tech (3-13, 0-3) Saturday at the Eblen Center in a 7:30 p.m. tip.
Racers Win Thursday Battle At Jacksonville State
The Murray State Racers won for the first time this season on the road Thursday with a 72-68 victory over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. It also pushed their current OVC road win streak to five.
In Thursday's game, the Racers had a 35-30 lead at halftime. The defining momentum swing started with 13:37 remaining in the contest with the Racers staring at a five-point deficit (48-43). The Racers found a way to handle JSU's full court press and hit 6-of-8 shots in a 14-2 run that saw them go in front 57-50 with 7:37 left. When JSU made a another push to get to within two points with 2:14 left, the Racers went back in from by seven on a 3-pointer by Brown and a 70-63 lead.
Tevin Brown notched his fourth game in the last five with 20 or more points with and effort of 24 while playing all 40 minutes in the game. KJ Williams gave the Racers two double-figure scorers with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Anthony Smith led the way eight rebounds and Jaiveon Eaves dished out four assists.
Racers Find a Way To Success
MSU isn't the offensive powerhouse they were in the last two seasons, one that featured some of the best 3-point shooters in program history. The Racers are finding other ways to get the job done and win games.
While only shooting 33 percent from the 3-point line, the Racers are hitting an amazing 54 percenter inside the arc and they are making it difficult for teams to match their post size and ability. Racer bigs are getting solid contributions from Anthony Smith (10.2ppg/7.6rpg), KJ Williams (11.9ppg/6.9rpg), Demond Robinson (7.3ppg/3.3rpg) and Devin Gilmore (4.9ppg/3.2rpg).
Tevin Brown continues to show a game that is getting better and broader as the games go by. His 3-point shooting was in the top-10 at the start of the week, but now he is showing an ability to score taking the ball at to the basket.
What's Coming Up
After playing this week at JSU and TTU, the Racers play at UT Martin and SEMO (Jan. 16 &18). MSU is back at home (Jan. 23) for a showdown with Belmont on ESPN2.
