
Pentathlon, Weight Throw Highlight Day One of Don DeNoon Invitational

The Murray State track and field team was in Carbondale, Friday for Day One of the Don DeNoon Invitational at Southern Illinois.
The day started with the pentathlon which saw the Racers take the top two spots on the podium. Defending OVC Field Athlete of the Week Jessikha Ribeiro took first place with 3,344 points, which included wins in both the 60m hurdles (9.19) and the high jump while Ashlyn Oren finished second overall, which also included a win in the high jump as both athletes jumped 1.65m.
In the other events, Ribeiro finished second in the shot put (9.92m), fifth in the long jump (5.08m), and fifth in the 800m (2:39.99), while Oren was second in the 60m hurdles (9.35), third in the shot put (8.99m), second in the long jump (5.22m), and sixth in the 800m (2:43.65).
Anna Vollet and Maddie Dahlberg also competed in the pentathlon, finishing sixth and eighth respectively. Vollet's best showing of the day came in the high jump as she finished third with a height of 1.50m while Dahlberg performed well in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.00 seconds, finishing sixth.
Four other events took place on day one including the weight throw which saw Jewel Wagner finish fifth with a distance of 18.04m, a new career-best and third-best in the OVC this season. Destiny Carey finished 10th with a distance of 15.94m while Ashton Crowe was 14th (13.44m), Joza Mikulcik finished 19th (12.40m), and Clara Tarpey was 22nd (10.70m).
In the high jump, Meghan Fletcher led a trio of Racers with a height of 1.65m to finish third while Jenna Pauly and Ribeiro each jumped 1.60m to finish sixth and seventh, respectively, tiebreaker based on total number of attempts.
In the triple jump, Keyandra Mason finished sixth with a distance of 10.77m while Eleri Gesler was right behind her in seventh with a mark of 10.75m.
In the pole vault, Brooke Misukonis finished second with a height of 3.65m while Jenna Pauly reached 3.35m.
The Racers will conclude the Don DeNoon Invitational tomorrow with 10 more events.
