On episode four of RacerDave's history lesson, Dave Winder reports on an amazing feat for Murray State baseball with double no-hitters on the same day in 1965.
Â
On the list of great individual performances at MSU, at the top we find a pair of players who made history when pitchers George Dugan and Jerry Anderson threw back-to-back no-hitters against Austin Peay in 1965.
Â
Dugan and Anderson were also guests on the Runnin' with the Racers Podcast.

The date was April 20, 1965 with Murray State taking on Governors at the field named after legendary Coach Johnny Reagan, who had the field
named after him long before he retired in 1993.
Â
In game one, George Dugan allowed only two baserunners on a pair of walks and he tossed a no hitter in a seven inning game. In game two, what could Jerry Anderson do to top that? Well, he threw a perfect game. 21 batters up, 21 batters retired.
Â
We only have one piece of media from that day and single photo.
Â
Coach Johnny Reagan flanked by his aces……George Dugan left and Jerry Anderson to the right. This photo shows all three smiling and soaking in the moment. Perhaps at this moment Coach Reagan was thinking, hey I'm a pretty good recruiter huh?
Â
It is an feat that hasn't been duplicated before, or since in the OVC.
You will also notice a memorable moment in a photo from 2015 when Dugan and Anderson threw out the first pitch at a game with Coach Reagan there to recreate the photo from 1965.
Â
There have been only eight no hitters in Murray State Baseball history. The two no-nos on the same day by Dugan and Anderson were the first. They were followed by four no-hitters in the 1970's by David Porter vs APSU (1970), Russ Peach vs Arkansas State (1971), Mike Thieke against Purdue (1973) and Andy Rice against Western Kentucky (1979). Richie Garner no hit Tennessee Tech in 1986. The last no-hitter in Murray State baseball history was on a cold and windy day at SIU Edwardsville in 2013 by Cameron Finch.
Â
On this list, George Dugan and Andy Rice are in the Murray State Hall of Fame.
