The Murray State baseball team saw their four-game winning streak come to an end at Southern Illinois, Tuesday as the Salukis took down the Racers, 2-1.
Bryson Bloomer had a good day at the plate, going 3-4 while Skylar McPhee drove in the only run of the game for the Racers. Bryan Chilton also added two hits.
Joe Ivey got the start on the mound and pitched four innings allowing just one run while striking out two. Jacob Pennington continued to shine on the mound this season as he threw 2.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts to lower his ERA to 1.13 on the season.
After two scoreless innings to begin the game, the Salukis took a 1-0 lead in the third, but the Racers came back in the fourth as Jake Slunder came around to score on a single by McPhee after being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Southern Illinois loaded the bases in the seventh, but Braydon Cook came out of the pen and struck out Ian Walters on three pitches to end the threat.
MSU was unable to hold off the Salukis in the eighth, however, as Nick Neville came around to score on a stolen base and two wild pitches after walking to lead off the inning.
In the ninth, Bloomer registered his third hit of the game, but that was all the Racers could muster. The Racers fall to 4-5 on the season, which now includes four one-run losses.
Murray State will be back in action this weekend when they welcome Bowling Green to Reagan Field. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
