Oren's High Jump Title Highlights Day One of OVCs

Ashlyn Oren highlighted day one of the OVC Track and Field Championships as she became the first Racer in since Jenille Kelly in 1989 to win the OVC Indoor High Jump title.
Oren cleared all of her marks up until 1.69m on her first attempt which gave her the tiebreaker as no one was able to clear 1.72m.
Jessikha Ribeiro and Meghan Fletcher each gave the Racers points as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively, giving the Racers 19 points after one event.'
In the long jump, Rachel Hagans earned the bronze medal with a jump of 5.71m. Oren scored for the second time on the day with a jump of 5.52m.
Jewel Wagner gave the Racers another two points with a seventh-place finish in the weight throw, throwing a distance of 16.68m.
The final scored event of the day was the distance medley relay which saw the Racers finish fifth with a time 12:17.43.
Overall, the Racers sit in second place overall after the first day with a total of 33 points, 13 points behind Southeast Missouri.
On the track, it was a bunch of preliminaries as the Racers sent six runners to the finals tomorrow led by Norma Abdur-Rafia who qualified for both the 200m and 400m and Kenia Seals who qualified for the 60m and 200m.
D'Myia Thornton will join Abdur-Rafia in the 400m as she ran a personal-best time of 55.98. Seals also ran a personal best in the 200m with a time of 24.77
Jumyia Denning will accompany Seals in the 60m final while Dontavia Howard was the lone Racer to qualify for the 60m hurdles.
Finally, Hilary McAdam will try to defend her 800m title tomorrow as she qualified with a time of 2:15.30.
