OVC Title On the Line - Racers Host Govs
The Murray State Racers (21-8, 14-3 OVC) put their 20-game home win streak in the CFSB Center up against the Austin Peay Governors (20-10, 14-3 OVC) Saturday in Murray, Kentucky in the final game of the 2019-20 regular season. The Racers are trying to win their third consecutive regular season title under Coach Matt McMahon.
MSU and APSU are in a three way tie for the top with the Belmont Bruins. So, while the Racers and Govs are doing battle, the Bruins will be visiting Tennessee State. There are many tiebreakers that could come into play depending on how it all plays out. One way or another, these three teams will be the 1-2-3 seeds at next week's OVC Tournament. Belmont is guaranteed to be a Top 2 seed, and the winner of the Murray State/Austin Peay game will be a Top 2 seed with the loser as the No. 3 seed. We also know that Eastern Kentucky is the No. 4 seed, Tennessee State is the No. 5 seed and Eastern Illinois is the No. 6 seed. That leaves Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Tennessee Tech to fight for the final two spots.
Battle of the Border - MSU vs APSU
The First Financial Bank Battle of the Border is a tight race heading into Saturday's regular season finale. The Battle of the Border is an annual rivalry series between these two longtime OVC members. Points are awarded for each head to head regular season match up. If no head-to-head contest occurs, points will be awarded on how they finish at the OVC Championship. The 67 points of the annual competition represent the 67 miles separating the two institutions. The Racers currently lead 15-12 in the race for the bragging rights in the 2019-20 school year and the right to have the traveling trophy. The most recent points awarded was APSU besting Murray State this week at the OVC Indoor Track & Field Championship where it came down the final event. After today's basketball games, the next competition in the Battle of the Border is baseball in Clarksville, Tenn. (March 6-8).
Downtown Tevin Brown - Moving Up Racer 3-Point List
As one of the top 3-point threats in the nation, MSU sophomore Tevin Brown is closing on having a second top-10 season in Racer program history. Coming into the Saturday game, he is two threes from breaking again into the top-10. As a freshman, Brown hit 90 for a spot in seventh place all-time at MSU.
