The Murray State women's golf team begins play Sunday at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
Â
In their first event in the spring season, the Racers are part of what is called the largest field of any college golf event. The Kiawah Island Classic has 53 teams ready to play at the Osprey Point and Oak Point courses at Kiawah Island Resort Sunday through Tuesday (March 1-3). The final 18 holes has the top 26 teams playing at Osprey Point while teams in 27th place and lower play at Oak Point for a flight championship.
Â
2020 marks the fourth-straight season the Racers have played in the Kiawah event.
Â
Racer head coach Velvet Milkman sends out a starting lineup of: Raeysha Surendran, Payton Carter, Eliza Kho, Lucila Puente Rodriguez and Charli Jo Doss. Surendran is having a great senior year and enters the week with the top scoring average in the OVC at 73.
Â
The Osprey Point course will play as a par 72 and a distance of 5,984 yards, while Oak Point is also a par 72 and plays to 5,977 yards.
Â
The Racers are coming off an excellent fall campaign in which they had one second place finish and were picked No. 1 in the OVC women's golf preseason poll (Feb. 10). When they reach the OVC Championship in April, the Racers will be going for four in a row.
