On This Day: James Achieves Perfection in Win Over Bruins

Hannah James put on a performance for the record books a year ago today when she tossed the first seven-inning perfect game in Racer softball history. The freshman from Nicholasville, Kentucky struck out five Bruin batters in a 1-0 Murray State victory over Belmont on March 31, 2019 at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.
In what turned into a classic contest between Ohio Valley Conference rivals, the only run of the ballgame came by way of a Sierra Gilmore solo home run in the fourth inning.
While the flawless outing became the third perfect game in program history, it was the first since Mason Robinson achieved perfection in a six-inning effort against Eastern Illinois on April 28, 2017. Responsible for two of the three perfect outings, Robinson also became the first Racer pitcher to achieve the feat when she did so just five days prior on April 23, 2017 in a six-inning game against Belmont. As for James, she is the first Murray State freshman to throw a perfect contest.
Racer pitchers have consistently hurled historic games against the Bruins, as three of the program's five no-hitters, including two of the three perfect games, have come against Belmont.
