Sophomore Jorge Ruiz led the way for the Racers at the Mizzou’s Gans Creek Classic on Friday
The Murray State men's cross country team competed at the Gans Creek Classic, hosted by Mizzou, on Friday, Oct. 1 in Columbia, Missouri.
Sixteen other schools competed at the meet, including host-Mizzou, Texas A&M, Iowa, Baylor, Kansas and Kansas State.
"We came off of a two week break from racing and today was a great opportunity to run on a larger stage," said distance coach Jordan Johnston.
Sophomore Jorge Ruiz paced the way for the men with a time of 25:15.3. Follow classmate, Vicente Correia finished ten seconds behind at 25:25.2.
"A lot of the men running close to their PRs from the previous meet but on a much more challenging course today," said Johnston.
Seniors Caleb Kawasaki and Jordan Higgins crossed the finish line with times of 26:07.9 and 26:45.0. Sophomore Nathan Quinn rounded out the top five, who crossed the line in 27:08.6.
"However we have definitely found some areas that we need to improve on. If we continue to follow our routines and become more comfortable with the pre-race nervous energy then I think we are on the right path."
