First Road Contest Awaits Racers At Illinois State
The Murray State Racers hit the road for the first time in the 2021-22 season Tuesday (Nov. 16) with a game at Illinois State. The game finds the Redbirds at 1-1 and the Racers at 2-0. Tip time at Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill., is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed online by ESPN3. The Racers are coming off a Saturday home win over Bellarmine 78-59. It was a 19-0 run that allowed the Racers to get control of the game, a run that finished the first half and started the second half. ISU is 1-1 after a home win over UNCW 68-63 and a road loss in double overtime at Eastern Michigan 103-98. After Tuesday's game, both teams will spend Thanksgiving week in a much warmer situation. The Racers play in Florida at the Naples Invitational and ISU goes to Mexico to play in the Cancun Challenge. The Racers lead the all-time series with ISU 5-1 including a 76-65 home win a year ago. MSU has won the last three in the series including the last time they played at ISU, which was a 78-72 win in 2017.
MSU vs the MVC
Over the years, the Racers have played every current Missouri Valley Conference team with the exception of Northern Iowa. The Racers are currently 66-55 against the current lineup of teams in the MVC and are 7-4 since 2017.
One of the most famous games the Racers had was in 1964 as they met Loyola in Chicago for MSU's first NCAA appearance. The game was played at Northwestern's Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston. In a high scoring game, the Racers bowed out 101-91. Â
Brown Eyes OVC 3-point Record
Having moved into second place all-time at MSU in made 3-point field goals in the opener, Tevin Brown drew closer to Isaiah Canaan's record with a 6-of-11 game in the win over Bellarmine. Brown now has 258 as he closes on Canaan's mark of 304 that he made from 2009-13. The Ohio Valley Conference record is also in Brown's reach. Austin Peay's Joe Sibbitt made 319 from 1994-98.
