Tevin Brown Named To Lou Henson Award Watch List

Two-time All-OVC selection is added to the list of players that are considered for the mid-major player of the year
Murray State's Tevin Brown has been added to the watch list for the 2021-22 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award as announced by CollegeInsider.com.
Brown, a junior from Fairhope, Ala., is a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection and was named to the OVC's All-OVC Preseason Team. He enters the season with eight of the top 32 single-
game 3-point efforts in MSU history and is chasing down the 3-point record for the Racers as he begins the season with 248. Racer great, Isaiah Canaan (2009-13), is MSU's all-time leader with 304 and Frank Allen (1989-93) is at 251. The OVC record is held by Joe Sibbitt (1994-98) of Austin Peay at 319.
The Lou Henson Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. Henson is the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. During his 21 seasons (1975-1996), Henson led the Fighting Illini to 16 postseason appearances, including 12 NCAA tournaments and a Final Four appearance in 1989. He is also the all-time winningest coach in New Mexico State history with 289 victories, is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four.
Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern,
Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
At the end of the season, Brown could join recent Racers to be named to the Henson All-America Team following in the footsteps of Jonathan Stark in 2018 and Isaiah Canaan in 2013. The Henson Team is synced with the Lute Olsen Team, meaning a player may only appear on one of the teams. The Olsen award is considered an All-America team from all of NCAA D-I and the Henson Team is for players from mid-major teams. Canaan (2012), Cameron Payne (2015) and Ja Morant (2019) were each named to the Olsen Team and therefore were not on the Henson Team.
The Racers open the 2021-22 season Tuesday at home (Nov. 9) against Cumberland (TN).
Racers Selected For Two Home Games On ESPN+
The Murray State men's basketball is hosting a pair of televised home games on ESPNU as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2021-22 season. The Racers will appear on ESPNU (Feb. 17) when they host the Austin Peay Governors at the CFSB Center in a 6 p.m. tip. The second game happens at home (Feb. 24) against the Belmont Bruins in a tip off of 8 p.m. Both of the TV games for the Racers come on Thursday nights. The OVC schedule has a total of nine total men's basketball televised games (six regular season contests and three OVC Tournament games) to be aired by one of the ESPN networks during the 2021-22 season. This includes three nights of coverage at the OVC Tournament (March 4-5) at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
Mini-Ticket Plans Available
Fans can purchase season tickets and the Navy & Gold Mini ticket plans at Racer Mania. The mini plans are a great way for Racer Nation to enjoy Murray State games with general admission tickets. Each mini plan is $50 for one general admission ticket to five games. All of the games offered in the ticket plans are doubleheaders except for the stand-alone men's game vs Middle Tennessee (Dec. 4). Call the ticket office at (270) 809-3000 to purchase a ticket plan.
