
Volleyball Falls in Five Set Thriller to SIUE

Murray State lost in five sets 25-18, 9-25, 25-22, 23-25, 13-15 to SIU-Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Illinois on Feb. 20.
The Murray State volleyball team took on the Cougars in First Community Arena, Saturday night, falling to SIUE in a hard-fought five set match.
Murray State drops to 2-3 in conference play while SIU-Edwardsville improves to 3-2 in the OVC
Becca Fernandez was all over the court tonight picking up a career-high 49 digs. With her performance, she moves into fifth place on the Racers All-Time Digs List with 1736 career digs.
Kolby McClelland paced the Racers offense with 21 kills followed closely behind by Jayla Holcombe with 19. Holcombe added two block on the day and Callie Anderton dished out 45 assists.
A 6-1 run by the Racers in the first set gave them a 13-11 lead. MSU controlled the rest of the set, closing with four straight points, as the Racers won the set, 25-18.
The Cougars dominated the second set, cruising to a 9-25 set victory.
The third set was tight early until a 5-1 run by the Racers gave them a 19-13 lead. SIU-Edwardsville brought it as close as two before the Racers won the set, 25-22.
The fourth went back and forth until, with the score tied at 19, the Racers and Cougars continued to trade points until the SIU-Edwardsville won three straight points to take set, 25-23.
The Racers jumped ahead early in the fifth set, 3-1, but the Cougars brought it right back. The set was again back and forth, tied at 10 before SIUE rattled off four straight points.
The Racers fought off three set points before falling 13-15.
Murray State returns home next weekend, hosting UT-Martin on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1 in Racer Arena facing the Skyhawks at 6 p.m. on Sunday and 4 p.m. on Monday.
