Racers Prevail Against Tennessee State in Five-Set Thriller

Murray State prevailed against Tennessee State in five sets, 25-14, 28-26, 20-25, 25-27, 15-12, at Racer Arena on Monday night, sweeping the series against the Lady Tigers, 2-0.
Three Racers finished with double-figure kills, led by Kolby McClelland with a career-high 19, Jayla Holcombe had 11 and Darci Metzger added 10.
Callie Anderton finished with 49 assists, Becca Fernandez came through with 21 digs while Dahlia Miller tallied 17 digs.
The Racers picked up where they left off from the previous night in the first set, cruising to a 25-14 set win closing on a kill from Emily Matson.
The Lady Tigers pushed the Racers to the limit in the second set, taking them to extras, but Murray State scored three straight points to pull out the 28-26 set two win.
In the third set, Tennessee State used runs of 5-0 and 6-0 to jump out to a 14-6 lead. The Racers were able to close the gap to 20-21 with kills from Metzger and a service ace from McClelland but the Lady Tigers won the last four points to take it, 20-25.
Murray State got off to another slow start in the fourth set, falling behind 11-3, but responded using three service aces to tie the game 23-23. The Lady Tigers took the fourth set 27-25.
The fifth set went back and forth with the score tied at 4 before Tennessee State jumped ahead 9-5. Murray State immediately responded with an 8-2 run to take a 13-11 lead. A kill from McClelland and an attack error from Tennessee State ended the fifth set, 15-12.
The Racers travel to Morehead State on February 13 and 14 to face the Eagles.
