All-Time Series:
Tuesday's match will mark the 19th meeting between the two sides, with Murray State holding a commanding 14-4-2 record against the Governors in the all-time series. The Racers have won seven of the last eight matchups, with the only exception being a scoreless draw in 2016 on the road in Clarksville. The most recent meeting was a thriller – a 2-1 double overtime contest that was decided by an Abby Jones goal in the 105th minute that fueled the Racers to victory. Murray State has not lost to Austin Peay since 2011.
A Look at the Racers:
MSU earned a 3-1 victory over Belmont in their last outing that featured a pair of Racer goals from Symone Cooper, and another from Rebecca Kubin. MSU is averaging 2.75 goals per game, while also generating 17.5 shots per contest as the Racers rank second in the OVC in both of those categories.
Leading the way has been Kubin, whose three goals on the season is tied for second in the conference, while her seven total points sits in the #3 spot in the OVC entering Tuesday's clash with Austin Peay.
The Racers have also seen two goals and an assist from both Symone Cooper and freshman Chloe Barnthouse, while sophomore Lilly Strader is leading the OVC with 3.75 shots per game.
Abby Jones also continues to make plays for Murray State in the attack as her three assists are tied for second-most in the league.
In total, seven different players have scored a goal for the Racers this season.
Scouting Austin Peay:
The Governors enter Tuesday's contest at 1-3 after falling to Southeast Missouri 1-0 in their last time out on Friday. While the offense is scoring at a clip of 1.5 goals per contest, the Austin Peay defense is conceding twice per game on average in the new campaign. Their six goals scored on the year have actually come from six different players, while three of the four freshman on the roster scored their first collegiate goals in the first three games of the season. Isabel Petre and Hannah Wilson scored against Jacksonville State, while Tori Case got on the score sheet against SIUE. Case, Petre, and senior Ashley Whittaker each have three points on the season to lead the Governors.
Notes:
· Abby Jones, who became the Racers' all-time assist leader in last Tuesday's match against UT Martin, distanced herself from the #2 spot with two more in Friday's contest against Belmont as the junior from Powell, Ohio recorded the 23rd and 24th assists of her career.
· Kubin's goal against Belmont brought her season total to a team-best three on the year as the senior moved into a tie for fifth with Jackie Thomas (2000-03) on Murray State's all-time scoring list with 25 career goals.
· The Racers also enter Tuesday's match on a seven-game home OVC winning streak that dates back to the start of the 2019 season. The last defeat at Cutchin Field came on October 21, 2018 in a 1-0 contest against Eastern Kentucky
· Dating back to last season, the Racers have scored a goal in nine-straight matches.
