Seven Racers Collect a Hit, but Racers Come Up Short in First of Three-Game Series

Murray State softball traveled to UT Martin for a clash with the Skyhawks to open OVC competition for the 2021 campaign. Despite seven different Murray State players collecting a hit in the contest, the Racers came up short, falling to the Skyhawks by a score of 10-4.

The Racers posted the first run of the afternoon in the third inning when a Jensen Striegel two-out single to center field scored Chloe Jacque to give the Racers a 1-0 lead.

UT Martin answered back in a big way in the bottom half, however, putting up a four-run frame that was highlighted by a Kaitlyn Kelley two-run home run as the Skyhawks held a 4-1 advantage through three complete.

After a two-run fourth from the Skyhawks, the Racer bats got it going in the sixth, cutting the deficit to just two runs after a three-run inning behind four hits made it 6-4 through the visiting half.

Lindsey Carroll, Kamryn Carcich, and Taylor Jackson drove in the Racer runs in the inning, after Lilly Fischer, Sierra Gilmore, and Carroll opened the top half with three-straight hits.
The Skyhawks would go on to add some insurance in the home half once again though, as five hits led to four more runs for UT Martin as they went on to win the first of a three-game weekend series by a score of 10-4.

Seven Racers recorded a hit, while Sierra Gilmore was responsible for the lone MSU extra-base hit with her double in the sixth.

The Racers will return to action on Saturday when they complete the three-game series with UT Martin in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
