The game will be the fourth of a seven-game road trip for the Racers (19-25, 16-12 OVC) as they look to take advantage of a midweek opportunity to stay sharp ahead of this weekend's pivotal OVC series against Southeast Missouri. Wednesday's game will stream live on ESPN+ with live stats available on goracers.com. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. from Florence, Alabama.
All-Time Series:
Wednesday's contest will mark the fifth clash between the Racers and Lions, and the first time the two sides are meeting in Florence. Murray State is winless in the four prior contests that include a pair of losses by scores of 7-0 and 6-0 when the two sides last met at the Stinger Classic in Montgomery, Alabama a year ago.
A Look at the Racers:
Murray State won another OVC series on the weekend, taking two of three from Eastern Illinois on the road in Charleston to improve to 16-12 in conference action. The Racers are averaging 2.98 runs per contest, while their 60 stolen bases are tied for second-most in the OVC. Sierra Gilmore has found her rhythm offensively as the senior leads the Racers in batting average (.311), on-base percentage (.366), slugging percentage (.496) and RBI (34). Additionally, her 13 doubles are the most in the conference. Logan Braundmeier paces the team in home runs (6) and runs scored (28), and is also a perfect 17-17 on stolen base attempts in 2021. Jensen Striegel has swiped a team-high 19 bags this season, while Lily Fischer (.278 BA, .362 OBP) has chipped in four home runs on the year.

The Racers have been outstanding in the circle entering Wednesday, as their 2.41 ERA is the best in the OVC, while their 220 strikeouts are third-most in the league. Hannah James has worked a team-high 125.2 innings, and is holding opposing hitters to a .208 average at the dish in 2021. Her 123 strikeouts are the second-most in the OVC. Jenna Veber has worked 121.1 frames on the year to accompany a 2.42 ERA and a 5.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio, while Taylor Makowsky (5-2, 2.23 ERA, 34 K) rounds out a Racer trio that has baffled opposing hitters thus far.
Scouting North Alabama:
Due to a positive COVID-19 case and contact tracing within the program, Wednesday's game will mark North Alabama's first competition since April 11th. They enter the contest on a five-game losing streak with a 17-14 overall record that includes a 5-7 mark in the ASUN. They are batting .230 while averaging 3.97 runs per contest on the year.

Leading the way offensively is freshman Emma Broadfoot, who paces the Lions in batting average (.299), slugging percentage (.597), RBI (23), and home runs (6). Meleah Hargett has turned in a .268 average with 17 RBI, while Lexi Harper has stolen a team-high 14 bases in 2021.

In the circle, the Lions carry a team ERA of 3.12 and are holding opposing hitters to a .241 average on the year. 2019 ASUN Pitcher of the Year Megan Garst has seen the majority of the workload, posting a 2.71 ERA with 101 strikeouts over 90.1 innings of action. The Racers could also expect to see Sidney Revels on Wednesday, who has a 2.55 ERA to accompany 22 strikeouts over 44 innings of work thus far.

Notes/Upcoming Milestones
- With one stolen base over the weekend series against Eastern Illinois, Jensen Striegel continued to climb the ladder on Murray State's all-time stolen base list with 47 in a Racer uniform. She needs just three more to tie Mo Ramsey's 50 (2012-15) to move into second place in program history.
- Jensen Striegel enters Tuesday's contest on a four-game hitting streak.
- The Racers are 8-2 when they score a run in the first inning, and 12-5 when they score the first run of the game.
- In games where the Racers hit at least one home run, they are 12-2 in 2021. In contrast, Murray State is 7-23 when they do not hit a home run.
- Fifth-year senior Lexi Jones needs just one more home run to break into the top five on Murray State's all-time home runs list. Her 24 career round-trippers currently sits one behind Casey Castile's 25 for fifth-most in Racer history. Castile played for MSU from 2012-14.
- After driving in five runs in the weekend series against Eastern Illinois, Sierra Gilmore brought her career RBI total to 118. She needs eight more to catch Jocelynn Rodgers' 126 (2014-17) for third on the program's all-time list.
- With 123 strikeouts on the year, junior Hannah James owns sole possession of the #4 spot on the program's all-time strikeout list with 293 total in a Racer uniform. Her 24 career wins are also sixth-most in Racer history as she chases Chelsey Sullivan's (2010-12) 27 to move into the top five.
- Hannah James' 123 strikeouts on the year are just 25 away from the Murray State single-season strikeout record of 148 set by CheyAnne Gaskey in 2013.
- With four saves in 2021, Jenna Veber needs just two more to tie CheyAnne Gaskey's single-season program record of six that she set in 2013.
- Sophomore Lily Fischer has been hit by a pitch 12 times this season, which is the fourth-highest season total in program history. Ellyn Troup set the Racer record in 2012 when she was hit by a pitch 21 times.
- Sierra Gilmore has posted 15 multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI performances in 2021 to lead the Racers in both of those categories.
