Racers Swept in Doubleheader against SEMO

Murray State fell 8-3 and 12-8 in doubleheader on Friday against SEMO

With the pair of losses, the Racers fell to fifth in the OVC with their first conference series loss in 2021, while the Redhawks improve to second overall.

Ryan Perkins drove in a team-high three runs, going 4-for-9 with two doubles and a home run on the day.
Â
Bryson Bloomer was also 4-for-9, scoring two runs and driving in another.

Game One – Southeast Missouri 8, Murray State 3
Jordan Cozart improved his hitting streak to ten games, crushing a home run to left field in the first inning.

Each time the Racers scored, the Redhawks matched with runs of the own, taking a slight 2-1 advantage in the second.

After Ryan Perkins tied the game with a RBI doubled lined down the right field line in the third, SEMO answered with a run of their own in the next half inning to go ahead 3-2.

Murray State evened the game for a second time in the seventh on a Jordan Holly sac fly to left.
Â
Southeast Missouri broke the game open in the eighth and ninth, scoring five combined runs to win 8-3.
Â
Shane Burns battled through 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four.

Game Two – Southeast Missouri 12, Murray State 8
Southeast Missouri did not miss a beat heading into game two of the doubleheader, putting up seven runs before their starter Noah Niznik even took the mound.

The Racers fought their way back into the game, chipping away at the Redhawks led scoring single runs in the first and third, a pair of the fourth and added two more single tallies in the sixth and seventh to pull within two, 7-5.

Brock Anderson hit a deep fly ball to right field in the sixth that had the makings of tying the game but it got hung up if the wind that was blowing in hard from right and the Racers rally ended.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Redhawks offense went off for five more runs to smother the Racers hopes as they made attempts to get back into the game.

Ryan Perkins hit his 37th career home run, a no-doubter in the ninth for to bring the score to 12-8.

Murray State outhit SEMO 14-12 but the Redhawks two big innings proved to be too much to overcome.

Jack Wenninger took the loss as the pitching staff featured five arms.
Â
Jacob Pennington pitched 3.0 innings in relief and retired seven straight batters.
Â
Murray State faces off against Southeast Missouri tomorrow looking to avoid the sweep at 3 p.m. at Johnny Reagan Field.

The Racers will honor its five seniors tomorrow in a pregame ceremony at 2:30 p.m. They will also wear their players' weekend jerseys with their nicknames on the back.
