Murray State sits second in the conference standings only behind Southeast Missouri with an overall record of 27-20 and a conference record of 15-9.

The Racers are on their second five-game win streak of the season, taking back-to-back midweek games and sweeping the conference series against UT Martin. They've gone to extra in three of their last five games, coming out on top in all. With the conference series sweep, the Racers sit solidly in second place in the OVC behind only Southeast Missouri, who holds the tiebreaker over Murray State.

The Racers final road conferences series of the season with SIUE is all important in Murray State's hope of making the OVC conference tournament as only the top four teams will receive spots. MSU sits in second place at 15-9 while SIUE is in fifth at 12-12, only three games behind the Racers with one series remaining against Austin Peay in the final week of the regular season.

Last week versus Belmont, the Racers came back and tied it in the ninth before walking off on a wild pitch in the 12th. In the series opener against UT Martin, Bryson Bloomer hit a towering three-run home run in the eleventh to win it 8-5. On Tuesday, Jordan Cozart's walked it off for the Racers 5-4, in 11 innings to split the season series with SIU.

Gardner threw seven scoreless innings in game two against UTM to secure the series win for the Racers. He struck out seven of the first nine batters he faced and set a new career-high of ten K's.

Perkins hit .462 with five runs, two doubles, a triple, home run, two walks, 1.000 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. Perkins scored the game-winning, walk-off run on a wild pitch against Belmont and went 3-for-3 in game two vs UTM, with two runs scored, a home run and four RBI.

In his last six starts, Gardner is 5-1, has gone a minimum of 6.0 innings and has an ERA of 1.69 during the span. He's earned OVC Pitcher of the Week twice, thrown a complete game shutout and set a new career-high in strikeouts, ten. Gardner leads the team with 60 K's, good for fourth in the OVC. He currently is ninth in opponent batting average (.254) and 10th in ERA (4.37)

Redshirt junior Connor Holden has been named to NCBWA's 2021 Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. He is one of 65 of the nation's top relief pitchers to be named to the list. This season, Holden is 1-1, owning a 2.14 ERA in 15 appearances on the mound with seven saves, tied for 38th most in the country. In 21.0 innings pitched, Holden has struck out 22 compared to only five walks. Â

The SIU Edwardsville Cougars are currently sitting in fifth place in the OVC standing with an overall record of 22-21 and conference record of 12-12. They were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll.
