Tennis Set to Begin 2022 Season with Trio of Matches

Murray State Tennis Begins Season in Huntington, West Virginia

Murray State women's tennis is set to begin their 2022 campaign with a match against Eastern Michigan on Friday (Jan. 28) at noon in Huntington, W. Va. The Racers will then take on Marshall on Saturday (Jan. 29) before rounding out their road swing with a clash against Bellarmine on Sunday (Jan. 30) in Louisville, Kentucky.

Scouting the Racers

Fifth-year player Stasya Sharapova leads the Racers after collecting her 100^th career victory during the fall season. Sharapova has played as one of the top two singles players for Murray State throughout her four previous seasons. Last season Sharapova won five singles matches to go along with eight doubles wins.

Sophomore Sarah Bureau enters her second season with the Racers after being named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team a season ago. Bureau led the Racers with 12 singles victories last season.

Gabrielle Geolier, Natalie Slezakova, Annika Pschorr combined for a 24-4 record during the fall season and look to continue a strong campaign throughout the spring.

Scouting the Field

Eastern Michigan begins their season on Friday after going 10-17 last season. The Eagles are led by Portugal native Luisa Pelayo.

Marshall enters the weekend at 2-2 on the year with wins over Longwood and Bellarmine.

Bellarmine enters the weekend 0-3 after dropping their first three matches to IUPUI, Western Kentucky, and Marshall.
