Murray State fell 2-1 to Valparaiso to round out home games this season
Saraya Young kept her impressive offensive output going as Murray State soccer dropped a tight contest with Valparaiso 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky. Young now has three goals and seven assists to lead the Racers with 13 points this season.
Â
The goal came in the 20th minute as midfielder Hailey Cole and Young linked up with some one touch passing before Cole squared the ball for Young who finished it off to give MSU the 1-0 lead.
Â
Valpo would level the match in the 27th minute as the Beacons were able to find the back of the net following a scramble out of a corner kick.
Â
The Racers looked like they would retake the lead after Valpo conceded a penalty to the Racers in the 49th minute. The Beacons keeper would make the diving save to keep the scoring level before the Beacons would take the lead in the 50th minute.
Â
Lauren Payne put a stunning, bending shot from the top of the box that looked to be headed into the top right corner of the net before the Valpo goalie made a very impressive save once again.
Â
The Racers were very accurate with their shooting on the day, taking 10 shots with eight being on goal. The Beacons took eight shots with five on target.
Â
Tori Schrimpf led the charge for the Racers with three shots on goal followed by Payne and Sydney Etter who each had two. Murray State also led the corner kick count with a 12-6 final total.
Â
Murray State currently sits at fifth in the MVC standings with two games left to play. The Racers will now make their longest road trip of the season with a Thursday match at Northern Iowa and a Sunday match at Drake.
