The Game
Murray State will celebrate 100 years as University Saturday with its Centennial Homecoming football game at 2 p.m. at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky against Tennessee State.
The Series At A Glance
Saturday will be the 33rd meeting between the Racers and the Tigers, with the Racers holding an 18-15 advantage. Tennessee State put an end to five-game win streak by the Racers last season in Nashville with a 27-21 win at Nissan Stadium. In Murray, the Racers have won 11 of 17 total meetings at Roy Stewart Stadium including each of the last three.
Scouting The Tigers
After starting the season 0-4, Tennessee State appears to have righted the ship and has won each of its last three games. The Tigers are currently 3-4 overall and a perfect 2-0 in OVC play.
Tennessee State currently averages 24.7 points on 343.1 yards of total offense per game, while allowing 25.3 points on 356.1 yards per game. The Tigers run a fairly balanced offense with 194.3 yards per game passing and 148.9 yards rushing.
Draylen Ellis currently averages 197.7 yards per game as quarterback with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. The other main offensive threat for TSU is the running back duo of Devon Starling and Jalen Rouse. Starling currently has 414 rushing yards on the season with one touchdown, while Rouse has 389 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Jashun Bryant leads the way for Tennessee State with 40 tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss, one interception, two hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Josh Green has a team-high three picks for the Tigers, while Terrell Allen leads TSU in tackles-for-loss at 6.5 and sacks at 3.5
A Win Saturday Would...
A win Saturday would put an end to a season-opening eight-game skid by the Racers and would go down as the 499th win in Racer football history.
Club Rush
Damonta Witherspoon became the 11th Racer in school history to have six career 100-plus yard rushing games Saturday when he rushed for a career-high 157 yards at Lindenwood.
Kicking Into The Record Books
Aaron Baum's two field goals Saturday at Lindenwood propelled him to ninth on Murray State's all-time field goals made list with 24 in three seasons.
100 Years In The Making
Saturday will serve as the centennial celebration for Murray State. Founded in 1922, Murray State has now served the Commonwealth and its citizens for over 100 years.
Return Of A Legend
For one game only, the Racers will wear a special logo on the right side of their helmets. The "snorting horse" logo was drawn by Marshall Garland in 1973 and it served as the official athletics logo of Murray State from 1973 to 1988.
Homecoming
Saturday will be the 88th homecoming football game for Murray State in recorded history. The Racers are currently 50-36-1 on homecoming and are 1-1 against Tennessee State in those games.
