Women’s cross country led by Ruth Kimutai wrap week up at MVC Championship
Murray State women's cross country placed ninth as a team at their inaugural Missouri Valley Conference championships, Friday.
Ruth Kimutai led the Racers by finishing 22nd with a time of 22:21.4. Kimutai set the pace for the Racers with an average pace of six minutes per mile.
"Kimutai went out confidently and never wavered. We were hoping for an All-MVC finish but I think 22nd is a great starting point for her," said cross country coach, Jordan Johnston. "
Amirr Evans placed second for the Racers and 49th overall. The junior clocked a time of 23:22.
"Evans is not as comfortable in the longer distances so she usually relies a lot on her teammates. Today she broke away from her team mates right from the start and she handled it incredibly well," Johnston said.
Jocelyn Host is the third for the Racers with a time of 23:29 that puts her 54th overall. Fourth for the Racers is Samantha Tucci. The freshman clocked a time of 23:48.9 to place 60th overall.
Breanna rounds up the Racer top five with a time of 24:17.5 to place 66th overall.
"Day showed up in a big way today and it really helped out team score," said Johnston. "She was hunting a lot of people down in the final 2k of the race and it's nice to see her regain her confidence."
The Racers were picked to place 10th in the pre-championship coaches' polls. Bradley took home the MVC Championship with 22 points.
